The morning book group will meet on Thursday, November 17, at 7:30 a.m., and the noon book group will meet on Friday, November 18, to discuss The Boston Girl: A Novel by Anita Diamant.
Written by the author of The Red Tent, The Boston Girl is about a spirited young Jewish woman growing up in Boston’s North End in the early twentieth century.
Addie’s intelligence and curiosity take her to a world her parents can’t imagine—a world of short skirts, movies, celebrity culture, and new opportunities for women. Addie wants to finish high school and dreams of going to college. She wants a career and to find true love. From the one-room tenement apartment she shared with her parents and two sisters, to the library group for girls she joins at a neighborhood settlement house, to her first, disastrous love affair, to finding the love of her life, eighty-five-year-old Addie recounts her adventures with humor and compassion for the naïve girl she once was.
Boston Children’s Hospital personnel are encouraged to join us at the Library at the Longwood Center, in the Media Room (LC 5116), on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 a.m., or on Friday, November 18, at noon, to participate in discussion about these books. If you would like to be added to our Book Group email distribution list, please email the Library.
