Book Group will meet on Thursday, February 12, at 7:30 a.m., and Friday, February 13, at noon, to discuss Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheri Fink, MD, PhD. The book has received many awards and accolades including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the American Medical Writers Association Medical Book Award, and The New York Times Book Review Best Ten Books of the Year.
Five Days at Memorial is the result of over six years of reporting, investigating what happened at a New Orleans hospital ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, in which several health professionals later faced criminal allegations that they deliberately hastened the deaths of patients. Sheri Fink’s website includes links to an interactive map of Memorial Medical Center, an interactive timeline of the hurricane’s effects on Memorial, photos of the people who appear in the book, and “The Deadly Choices at Memorial,” the ProPublica and New York Times Magazine article that led to Five Days at Memorial.
Boston Children’s Hospital personnel are encouraged to join us in the AV Room in the Library on Thursday, February 12, at 7:30 a.m., or Friday, February 13, at noon, to participate in discussion about this book. If you would like to be added to our Book Group email distribution list, please contact Alison Clapp or Jessica LaBrie.
