New Book about Boston Children’s Cardiologist: Letters from Stella

letters from stellaStella Van Praagh, M.D. (1927-2006) was a world-renowned pediatric cardiologist and pediatric cardiac pathologist. She spent the majority of her remarkable career at Boston Children’s Hospital, and her work was important in understanding and treating many different forms of congenital heart disease.

Dr. Van Praagh, née Stella Zacharioudaki,  grew up in Crete, Greece. She and Betty Wood Oglesbee, a girl living in Texas, became pen pals in 1946. Now, Oglesbee has published some of the letters, written between 1946 and 1955, along with a narrative of Stella’s life. The letters and story give a glimpse into Stella’s future achievements, showing her personality of intelligent compassion.

Letters from Stella is now available at the library. Come to the library to check out this and other great new books.
