Book Group will meet on Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 a.m., and Friday, December 12, at noon, to discuss The Dinner: A Novel by Herman Koch. The Dinner initially found much popularity in Europe and has been translated into 21 languages from the original Dutch. The story, told in five courses, unfolds as two couples meet for dinner in an exclusive Amsterdam restaurant and must address their teenage sons’ responsibility for a horrific act.
You can read or listen to a review of The Dinner from NPR, which notes the novel’s realistic inclusion of smartphones and the Internet in the characters’ lives, which many contemporary authors tend to ignore. There is also a discussion guide available from Random House.
Boston Children’s Hospital personnel are encouraged to join us in the AV Room in the Library on Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 a.m., or Friday, December 12, at noon, to participate in discussion about this novel. If you would like to be added to our Book Group email distribution list, please contact Alison Clapp or Jessica LaBrie.
