Book Group will meet on Thursday, October 2, at 7:30 a.m., and Friday, October 3, at noon, to discuss The Daughters of Mars: A Novel by Thomas Keneally. Keneally is also the author of the Booker Prize-winning novel Schindler’s Ark, which was adapted for film as Schindler’s List.
The Daughters of Mars is the story of two Australian sisters who volunteer for the war effort in 1914 and travel halfway around the globe to nurse the wounded soldiers of the First World War. Reviews of the book appear in The Washington Post and The New York Times. Simon & Schuster’s reading group guide includes discussion questions as well as links to collections of medical photographs and Australian propaganda posters from World War I. You can watch an interview with the author about the book below.
Boston Children’s Hospital personnel are encouraged to join us in the AV Room in the Library on Thursday, October 2, at 7:30 a.m., or Friday, October 3, at noon, to participate in discussion about this novel. If you would like to be added to our Book Group email distribution list, please contact Alison Clapp or Jessica LaBrie.
