The newly launched BioRxiv (Bio-Archive) from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a free website where biologists can post manuscripts online before submission to a journal. This preprint server is a resource for researchers to obtain feedback prior to undergoing a formal peer-review process. Articles submitted to BioRxiv are not for peer-review, but content is screened for relevancy.
BioRxiv is modeled after Rxiv, the preprint server for applied sciences. Preprint servers promote a culture of knowledge sharing and open access within research communities. Research findings are made available to the community more rapidly. Pre-publication comments can be made on article drafts and authors can post revisions. BioRxiv accepts articles in 23 life science subject areas, however it does not cover medical or clinical trials content. Read more about BioRxiv in Science.
