How do you pick the books on your reading list?

booksYesterday’s New York Times ran an article by Leslie Kaufman about social media sites where readers write and read reviews and connect in online book groups.  The article focused primarily on Goodreads.com, which is gaining on Amazon as a place to go to scope out books.  According to Kaufman, people like Goodreads because the site is not trying to sell books, unlike Amazon, which now owns Goodreads competitor Shelfari and part of LibraryThing.  Social media book sites also enable self-published authors to get the word out about their books and even participate in video chats about upcoming works.
