The Morning News is in the midst of its annual Tournament of the Books, a March Madness-style battle of the books–complete with tournament brackets. Every March the online magazine, The Morning News, compiles a list of the top 16 novels from the previous year and assigns two books to each of the judges. Each day a judge reviews their two books and selects one of the books to move on to the next round. Today’s match was judged by Wil Wheaton (of Big Bang Theory and Star Trek fame) and featured Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder and Patrick deWitt’s The Sisters Brother, with deWitt’s novel coming out on top.
Upcoming matches of the open round include: Swamplandia vs. The Cat’s Table, The Marriage Plot vs. Green Girl and The Art of Fielding vs. Open City. See what the judges have to say about your favorite books of 2011 or use their reviews to decide what’s next on your reading list. Also, it’s worthwhile checking out the Match Commentary section and reader comments to see what others have to say about the judge’s reviews.
