Our next Book Group meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 8th at noon or Friday, Dec. 9th at 7:30 a.m. We will be discussing Jane Ziegelman’s 97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families on One New York Tenement. There are a number of book reviews of potential interest: the New York Times, the Wall St. Journal and the Boston Globe.
There is an interesting news item in the Jewish Daily Forward about Ziegelman’s new culinary program at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the Tenement Museum website is packed with a wide variety of additional information including a “virtual tour” and an oral history by Josephine Baldizinni. You can catch Jane Ziegelman on several YouTube videos: C Span and a three part series which is audio only. Guy Raz interviewed the author on NPR. The Food Timeline is another resource for delving deeper into individual culinary/food along with the companion Food History Guide
