American Heart Month Featured Book:

Celebrate American Heart Month by reading about the innovators of open heart surgery in King of Hearts: The True Story of the Maverick to Pioneered Open Heart Surgery, by G. Wayne Miller.  Miller spotlights the life and work of Dr. C. Walton Lillehei, along with his colleagues at Minneapolis’ University Hospital as they ventured into unknown territory in cardiac surgery starting in the 1950s.  King of Hearts recounts personal and professional lives of the men who invented the techniques used in open heart surgery, along with the stories of the young patients they saved—and those who did not survive.  This true story of medical innovation, triumph and heartbreak is available for checkout at the hospital library.
