Next Meeting: Thursday, April 1st, noon and Friday, April 2nd, 7:30 a.m. – Oxygen by Carol Cassella

In addition to  following Dr. Marie Heaton as she reconnects with her family, this first novel, written by an anesthesiologist, explores issues in the forefront of healthcare today: medical mistakes, long hours, and medical malpractice.

You might want to check out the author’s website or her Facebook page.  She offers a reading guide on her website which includes an author interview along with typical reading guide questions.  The publisher’s website also includes an interview with the author.  Spoiler alert….for those of you interested in reading about a survey done of residency programs questioning whether anesthesia residents with a history of substance abuse should be allowed to continue their training, you can connect to this PubMed abstract. In 2009 the Mayo Clinic Proceedings also addressed this issue in both an editorial and article.
